The
light crawling in lethargically through train’s long window was barely bright
enough to qualify as light at all. It was the cold grey glow of the predawn,
the hush of first exposure that made everything stop moving for a moment.
Hiroto loved it, this singular moment of the early morning that went on for
hours.
Before joining up with Alice Nine, Hiroto had often gone up into the mountains at four in the morning to enjoy the stillness of the transition from night to day. Now that he was a rockstar getting away from it all to spend time in the mountains was rare, but he no longer had to work to get up early to see the sunrise. When the band was out touring or working on a new album, he usually hadn’t gone to bed yet when the sun began to rise as the perfect predawn rolled around. “Nee, Chisa,” Hiroto whispered, trying to see if the bundle of blankets next to him was awake without being the cause of it. They were on the train heading north, back to Tokyo, for the final leg of their tour. It was the first tour that Chisa had been able to tag along for without being impeded by her schooling. It had been a very long tour for her, as she wasn’t quite used to the drawn out version of the rockstar lifestyle that was life on the road. She usually fell asleep promptly after the band settled in for the night after finishing up a good show. She was a light sleeper however, and she stirred at Hiroto’s voice. Blinking sleepily, she mewled softly and incoherently as she tried to say that she was perfectly awake. Hiroto smiled softly as she squished up her facial muscles to try and gain some cognition. Slowly coming into a decent level of consciousness, she squirmed closer to him and the warmth of being next to him. “Ah, Hiroto-kun,” she said, most audibly for how asleep she still was, “You’re smiling again.” “It’s nice out,” Hiroto replied, looking over Chisa’s head at the landscape blurrily flashing by beyond the bounds of the train’s window. Normally, he would have tried to shove it off, to pretend that he hadn’t been smiling at all. But this early in the morning there was no one around to notice his expression aside from Chisa, and she was the only one he allowed himself to smile for anyway, at least like this. “What time is it?” Chisa asked, her words intelligible even through her sudden yawn. “Just about four thirty, maybe five.” “Ah, no wonder then,” she said, shifting to tuck herself against Hiroto’s side so that she could look out the window with him. She had to admit that there was something about this time of day that was beautiful, even if she still preferred to be asleep to being awake to enjoy the quiet. For a moment the pair sat in silence, caught between looking out the window and observing their friends. Saga and Yuuki were asleep, with the bassist leaning against the window and the actress curled up in his lap. Shou and Erika were asleep too, propped up against each other over an arm rest. Tora and Namie were awake, but their quiet bickering could have been an unconscious act of their natures at this point. Mira was half asleep a she watched them going at it, with Nao’s sleeping breath blowing softly on her hair. The crew members were scattered about, a few trying to handle some left over tasks while the others slept off the show of the night before. The familiarity of the scene was soft and warm, almost tangibly blurred in the dim morning light. “I like it.” Hiroto had been almost certain Chisa had fallen asleep again until she’d spoken. “I thought you hated mornings.” “Sorta,” Chisa said, her overly long pause betraying her sleepiness. “I do hate mornings, I hate getting up. But I like the way you smile, and how everything looks fuzzy. It’s nice.” “You should see a sunrise in the mountains sometime, that makes everything look spectacular,” Hiroto commented. “Can I bring a camera?” “Only if you just take pictures of the scenery.” Chisa stuck her tongue out. “It’s too early for you to start teasing me!” “I’m not letting you get anything that’ll have Saga holding it over my head for the next decade,” Hiroto mentioned. “No matter how early it is.” “You’re no fun.” “Go back to sleep.” “I wanna see the sunrise.” Cooing softly, Hiroto replied, “We can watch it tomorrow, we’re on the wrong side of the train to see it well enough at all today.” “Stupid sunrise.” “Get some sleep, Chi-chan,” Hiroto said with a smile, tucking Chisa into her blanket cocoon more snugly. “We’ll get some ice cream after tonight’s show and watch the sunrise over the harbor, okay?” “You need sleep to,” Chisa murmured, already less awake than she had been. “You actually have to play the show tonight.” “I’ll be fine,” Hiroto countered as Chisa’s breathing began to slow. “It’s still early.” ♡♥Finite♥♡ |
