“You
are not fixing my cat.”
“I don’t like the way he’s staring at Mari.” Tora was adamant. He stood in front of the door with his arms crossed and his bare feet set firmly in the frame to prevent Namie from leaving. She had Chikin tucked inside her purse and was standing directly opposite the guitarist, toe to toe and just as stubborn with he hands on her hips and her lips in a pout. “You are not fixing my cat,” Tora repeated. Namie huffed and gestured dramatically as she said, “Well it’s not like you can just teach him to use a condom!” “Chikin deserves to be a real man.” “He’s not going to be any less of a man than he is now.” “My cat is not going to be a Unic.” “He already lets me put bows in his hair,” Namie pointed out. Tora stood firm. “It’s the manly thing to do.” “You don’t let me put bows in your hair.” “I’m bigger than you are.” “And means you’re allowed to be less manly than a cat?” Chikin meowed just then, as if to attempt to throw in his two cents. “You’re not fixing my cat.” Namie would have gone back to the fact that apparently, if she had been bigger than Tora she could have made him wear bows in his hair, but knew that wouldn’t help to forward her over all argument. “If we leave him as is, you’ll have to lock him up in the bathroom to keep him away from Mari.” “Why do you even think he’ll be able to get near Mari? She hates me, she probably hates him just as much,” Tora reasoned. “She doesn’t hate you,” Namie countered. “She’s jealous that I play with you more than I do with her. She’s had a crush on Chikin since we first moved in.” “Then why don’t you get her fixed?” “It’s dangerous for girl cats!” Namie replied, appalled. “For Chikin, it’s a ten minute thing. For Mari, it would be a two day ordeal!” At Namie’s apparent distress, Tora found himself willing to cede the point. He sighed heavily and rubbed at the back of his neck as he stretched out his muscles. “And why exactly is it so important that we get either of them fixed?” “We’re not ready to have any little ones running around the house and I am not making Mari give any of her babies up!” Namie explained as if it were obvious. “We could just keep them.” “We can’t. We’re too busy and we’re not ready to give anything up to take care of them,” Namie wailed, gesticulating wildly. “We have neighbors.” “So?” Tora chuckled at his ridiculous girlfriend. “You haven’t really met them yet, have you? With all the touring we’ve been doing lately . . . there’s some really sweet kids around here. They’ve taken care of Chikin for me before and I’m sure that they’d love to help us out in case of kittens.” “You’d really be okay with keeping them?” Namie asked, suspicious. “We might not be ready to settle down, but they don’t have any careers to worry about. Chikin would make a great family man,” Tora said, grinning down at the face of the tabby tomcat as his head poked out of Namie’s purse. “And Mari would get to keep all of them?” “All of them.” Namie was still suspicious. She stuck her hand out to Tora, pinky extended, “Yakusuko.” “Yakusuko,” Tora promised, linking his pinky with hers and grinning as her childish squint of suspicion evaporated. Setting down her purse, and its occupant, gently, Namie tipped forward to curl into Tora’s arms Mari pranced over from the kitchen as the guitarist trapped his singer, sweeping her up off the floor with ease. They watched Mari rub her head against Namie’s shin as Chikin climbed out of her purse. Then Mari transferred her affections to Chikin, who tried to put up with it for a moment before he charged away from them towards the freedom of the kitchen. Tora laughed, huffing after him, “Our girls can be awfully ridiculous, nee, Chikin?” Namie giggled and looked up at Tora. “Now, about putting bows in your hair . . .” “Not gonna happen.” “Oh, come on!” Tora spun Namie around in his arms, making her shriek in glee and dizziness. The cats meanwhile had reconnected and had settled down on the couch together as the usual bickering of their humans moved on to topics that didn’t involve them. The constant little arguments in the apartment were cyclical would eventually get back to the cats, but once it was established that even Tora found kittens to be absolutely adorable, there was no more talk of ‘fixing’. That suited everyone just fine. ♡♥Finite♥♡ |
