I'm setting out to Change the world.
And Nothing's Going to stop me from doing it.
My goal is to become a power player in the music world.
It's a long hard road, with lots of twists and turns, and this is my story, play by play. |
This is an archive of all the cool projects I did before I graduated from the University of Mary Washington.

Projects from my Undergrad Years:
I whipped this together recently, half because I had a speech I didn't want to write and half because I was sick and tired of people thinking that Kpop is just a cute little thing to amuse small children. There is straight up sex appeal, incredibly dark undertones, and a depth of narrative too sophisticated for most adults, let alone kids. This FMV is 31 of my favorite KMVs, the ones that shatter the bright bubble of shallow joy idea.
Full Credits and explanation HERE. Fall 2013:
On November 7-9, The University of Mary Washington hosted an experimental music conference: the Electro-Accoustic Barn Dance. This was my third year attending the festival and my second year actively involved with the teching and staging of the nine separate concerts. Last year, as a member of Dr. Mark Snyder's Electronic Music class, I had a piece in the festival. This year, I sadly did not, but having been re-exposed to the fantastic creativity involved with the truly avaunt guard study of music and sound as art forms, I've determined that I will definitely have one in next year's festival!
My deepest admiration goes out to Dr. Mark Snyder, Becky Brown, Stephen Hennessey, Paige Naylor, Isun Malekghassemi, Lindsay Bulls, and everyone else on the crew! And of course to all the incredible composers and musicians that graced our campus for the weekend! EABD 2013 was an absolute BLAST! |
Other Cool stuff, like concert recaps . . .
Summer 2014:
Interview with Jent of Kompany 93! I recently spent time with Kpop artist Jent on the set of his music video and photo shoot! He told me a bit about his new song, "A Girl Like Coffee (커피 같은 여자)", and gave his American fans a special promise! Check out all the footage HERE. Jonas Brothers Concert: VIP Experience 2013.7.29
In short: I'm a clutz, Joe smells nice & has good reflexes & strong arms, camera men are helpfully unhelpful, I ask weird questions, pink tights are cool, sound guys are exotic birds that are kept caged away from the people of the petty public . . . Read the play by play and check out some cool pics HERE. Passion Pit and Matt & Kim w/ Icona Pop 2013.2.6
One of the coolest nights of my life thus far. Morals of the story: sound guys are awesome, Cheetos are delicious, Baby-sitting the Hallway is never a dumb job, 'fans' can be morons, and bubbles rock. Read the Play by Play HERE. ASTYLE Radio:
ASTYLE Radio is an online music program for WMWC College Radio that is run by yours truly, and is centered on the Latest and Greatest Asian Music, discussions range from what tracks are hot at the moment and why to the larger geopolitical effects of things like Visual Kei and the Hallyu Wave. I personally ran the UMW radio station for two years as General Manager and I was the Technician for my entire UMW career. Unfortunately, as I'm no longer attending UMW, I've had to retire my keys and hand over the Station to a new GM, but ASTYLE Radio will be staying with me, in the event I wind up somewhere that has a station I can set up shop in. ^_~ |
On October 28th the University of Mary Washington's annual Asian Cultural Week began! Taste of Asia ran up until November 1st and was packed FULL of incredible events, including a group of Taiko Drummers, a Beijing Opera group, and a Scary Movie Marathon. Taste of Asia is a week of events entirely organized by UMW's Asian Student Association (of which I'm the treasurer). It was my third year helping run the show and I'm so happy to have been able to work with everyone in ASA, especially our Exec. Board: Gina Noh, Valerie Lewitus, Justin Yi, Eva Ng, Sun Park, Jessica Woo, and Soo Lee.
Additional thanks to Dr. Marion Sanford of the UMW James Famer Multicultural Center for sponsoring ASA and allowing us so much freedom to organize the events of Taste of Asia, and for providing unending aid with publicity and UMW Student Organization Affairs. And to our outstanding caterers: including but not limited to TarnTip Thai, Choi's Korean Kitchen, and Asian Flair Catering. |
And to Dr. Steve Rabson, for allowing me to make a joint presentation for the Taste of Asia Kickoff event. Our presentation was about the Music of Korea and Japan, it's past, present, and it's future, and included a short documentary. The video is meant to be an introduction to the industry for people who's only exposure to Kpop is Gangnam Style.
It's also useful for people who've seen a bit more of the industry, but still don't quite understand it!

Summer 2013:
I've entered a video contest sponsored by the South Korean Embassy's Cultural Center! The grand prize is a trip to Korea and the possibility of an up-close look at the Kpop World Fest! Youtube stats are 40% of the judging criteria, and winning could really help me kick-start my music career, so it would mean a lot to me if you would check out the video on the right! The results are put up July 30th, so stay tuned!
EDIT : Sadly, I have not been picked for the grand prize, but I did come in 3rd place in my category! Thank you so much for your help with the views and likes on Youtube, and I'm sure that another opportunity will come up for me eventually.
I WILL be going to Korea next summer as part of a special-study-program that will allow me to work in my field of study as well as to earn college credits and explore Seoul.
