LC9 - Just A Dream (Nelly Cover)

Sweet Shisus how did I miss this?

I may be more than a bit biased towards loving this song (it was the first song I ever had to choreograph on my own. It was part of my special high school education  {the IB program required us to log hours as an active contributor to some sort of sport. Some people lead like legit sports teams to league championships. I jumped around in sweatpants and played with a sound board and innocent lives} and I will forever be fond of it), but even if that weren't so, I'd have to say that these guys do a fantastic job with this track. Seriously. It's a GORGEOUS cover.
And now I'm craving an LC9 comeback that includes King R&B solo, possibly even in English. I'm also hoping for a solo for Rasa, or maybe a duet between the two of them. And E.Den's lower vocals balance the smoothe highs out so perfectly. J.Hyo, AO, and Jun are such cuties and their voices mellow it out adding soft middle tones that rough the track up in just the right ways, especially with the short rap in Korean. It changes up the rhythms brilliantly.
New fantasy kpo team here, I want subgroup promotions. Rasa, King, and E.Den on a smoothe R&B track and then J.Hyo, AO, & Jun on a kickin dance track that has them playin gangsters or super spies. Or Nega Network could mix the two ideas and give me one complete LC9 comeback, I'm down for either.

Honestly, with the variety of voices adding depth of meaning to the universalizing question "have you ever loved somebody" . . . I kinda like this one better. Their voices are spectacular and their producers are Top-Class.
And the MV, though quite obviously made on a budget of negative ten bucks, is pretty fantastic on it's own account. It's really quite well done. The transitions between members, the slides along notes, and cuts at the cadence; it's all the result of great planning and great editing. The lighting is a little awkward at times, and the transitions between warm and cool colors are a bit abrupt, but still phenomenal job. This right here his how you make your own MV (granted the camera they used probably cost more than my house, but hey, that why you make cool friends with people in cool places).

I give it a 9/10: Blissful!

LC9 - Artist Review

Aesthetics:

I love Jun's hat in the teaser pics. Other than that, they've got a pretty standard-for-the-moment style. It's a sort of grungy-colorful, which works quite well for them. I hate AO's curly blonde do, but it's a trend at the moment, so it makes sense to pin it on the Maknae.

Sound:

Their debut title track is meh, but the rest of their mini is solid. It's nothing spectacular, but it's a decent release and it's filled with potential for a future of great things.

Performance:

Pretty good. They've got great Choreography and pull it off extraordinarily well. They have some volume control issues, but with their choreography it's not surprising. They're good live, and they'll get better.

Other:

I can't think of LC9 without thinking about Lc5, even though they're completely unrelated. It's nothing against either group, it's just a statement of fact.

Also, I don't understand their name. League of Competition 9? There's only 6 of them. And if it's supposed to be #9, what happened to the first 8?

LC9 - Skirmish (Music Review)

Top Track: Ready Set Go

FInal Score:  5/ 10

Promotional Track ~

Meh, it's a decent track. It's far overshadowed by the MV, but it's an okay start to their career. The structure's pretty simple, very much the industry standard. It's catchy and has a nice beat, but it's nothing spectacular or attention grabbing. Ga-In's feature in the bridge felt entirely unnecessary, thrown in simply to have a BEG girl feature in the debut track of the "BEG Boys".

I give it a 4/10: energetic BGM.

Other ~

Skirmish is solid, very edgy yet nice and smoothe. It's got a pretty simple structure, but that's all it needs. The almost-minimalist feel is actually pretty cool for a rap song. The bridge has this little sitting-on-a-beach bit in one of the backing synths that confused me, but hey, still a good track.
Hold On is great. The Engrish is interesting, but it's good enough to not be too distracting. It has great build and spatialization. The arpeggio motif transfers between instruments very well, building up the tension with ease. The ending's a bit too sudden, but still good.
Ready Set Go is fabulous. It's got a great pulse. It builds up and then drops out from under you, not to the point that you flounder, just enough to wake you up. The chorus is a bit meh, lyrically, but structurally it works perfectly. All of these track feel like they're going somewhere, but this is the only one that actually feels like it gets there.

I give them a 6/10: playlist material.

LC9 - MaMaBeat (MV Review)

First video review on the snazzy new webiste, hmm? Exciting.

Starting off, I love how the MV's environment is integrated into the song, the back-alley's apparent abundance of  metal clanky things makes for a great way to introduce the rhythmic elements of the track. The choreography of the fights perfectly show off the members' abilities and the transitions between them match up very well with the movements of the song itself, and the use of camera angles and effects is flawless; the digital effects . . . well, the flaming hand thing and such weren't too bad at all, honestly. The styling's nice, not my personal favorite, but it works really well for the under-ground vibe, yet it also encompasses some high style trends (the bright colored gloves and shoes to name a few).

I really do LOVE the movement in this MV, the raw power of the fighting has a certain elegance, especially when it's augmented by camera tricks like slow-mo and angle-variance. However, it does get a little excessive, particularly once weapons come into play. The blood on the lens after the brass-knuckles come out seems to be unnecessary, and the ax just seems way too violent. I could have accepted a crowbar, but an ax? Meh, I'll admit that it was a fairly clever method to make a removal of clothing viable (which I'm sure many more people than just I appreciated), but that could have been accomplished with the bent end of a crowbar. Axes, with the whole sharp-blade aspect, just seems like too much. Other than that, I love everything!

Also, it can be taken as a metaphorical interpretation of the industry: the camaraderie of the members, the constant struggle against each other to stand out to the fans (and to management), the way training to best each other makes them all stronger in the end... It's probably not meant to be taken that way, but it could be I mean with their band name being "League of Competition" and all. ^_~

But really, choreography is just SO fluid and wonderful, I'm expecting great thing from them in the future!
